Piano

This class is intended to teach the basic elements of piano playing technique, along with the skills necessary to read and perform piano music. Throughout this course, students will demonstrate understanding of the following topics:

  • Basic note reading ability in treble and bass clef

  • Basic understanding of melodic lines vs harmonic lines

  • Scales and their functions

  • Popular and standard melody

  • Ensemble/group performance

Music Technology

This class will focus on music production through modern technological processes. Students will engage in music composition and arrangement through computer-based notation and digital sequencing. Students will learn the proper methods of digital recording, editing and mixing as well as the skills involved in audio production and post-production.

Guitar

This class is intended to teach the basic elements of guitar playing technique, along with the skills necessary to read and perform guitar music. Throughout this course, students will demonstrate understanding of the following topics:

  • Basic note reading ability in treble clef

  • Basic rhythms and rhythmic notation

  • Basic understanding of picking and strumming techniques

  • Chords and chord symbols

 Tri-M Music Honor Society

Tri-M Music Honor Society is a high school and middle school music honor society and is a program of the National Association for Music Education (Nafme). It is designed to recognize students for their academic and musical achievements and to provide leadership and service opportunities to young musicians. Each chapter is run by the students but supervised by an advisor.

To be eligible for membership, a student must maintain an A average in their music classes, a C average in all of their academic courses, be presently enrolled in a music course at their school, and be recommended for membership by their school's music faculty.
